I've spent my career fighting for our communities, our lands, and our rivers across South County. With your help, I'm ready to take that passion and experience to the floor of the General Assembly and fight for you.
About Matt
I'm a dad, a husband, and a proud resident of rural South County. I've spent my entire career standing up to deliver for communities. When the Chesapeake Bay Program needed someone to work with farmers in Pennsylvania to clean up streams and save their farms, I raised my hand. When Anne Arundel County was looking to hire its first environmental policy director, I raised my hand. And when my son's soccer team needed an assistant coach, I raised my hand. I know what it takes to serve. I know what it takes to deliver solutions and make our government work for us.
My wife and I chose to raise our son in South County because of the people, the communities, the lands, and the waters that make this place so special. I'm fed up with the sprawling development that threatens our quality of life. I'm tired of leaders in Annapolis who think the entire state looks like the I-95 corridor. I want a government that works for you, not for monied interests. And I have no patience for those who seek to divide our county, state, and country between blue and red. I'm running to bridge the gap, add some purple back to the map, elevate the voices of all residents across South County, and get big money out of our politics for good.
We must pass along an environment to our children that is better than the one we found. We must protect funding for the restoration of the Chesapeake Bay and fight sprawling development that threatens our forests, farms, and rivers. We must make our communities more resilient to rising waters. South County is a beautiful and unique landscape and it deserves to be conserved for future generations.
Our small businesses, farmers, and children deserve the opportunity to prosper and build their American dream right here in South County. We must make it easier to start a small business and keep one open. We should make it easier for our farmers to keep their farms by funding conservation and providing agritourism opportunities. We should build new recreational areas for our young people and guarantee them a world-class education so they have the skills they need for the 21st century.
I've watched communities defeated time and again in Annapolis by big-monied developers and corporations. I've watched those same developers and corporations cut big checks for candidates the next week. We've got to make government work for you and that means kicking big money out of our elections for good. Governor Hogan ran and won on public campaign finance, a system that prohibits donations from political action committees and caps individual donations so big donors don't have a big say. Yet, state candidates, like myself, can't use this system. I'll change that by writing a bill that allows all state candidates to use public campaign finance.
